            Offered to graduate students working in the humanities and social sciences on Southeast Asian topics, the Asian Graduate Student Fellowship (AGSF) will allow the recipients to be based at NUS for an ‘in residence fellowship’ for a period of six (6) weeks. Citizens of Asian countries currently enrolled in a full-time MA or PhD degree at a university in an Asian country (except Singapore) are welcome to apply for the fellowship.
Successful candidates can expect the following benefits:
1. A one-time allowance of SGD 500
2. Hostel accommodation for the duration of the fellowship
3. Access to library and computer resources in NUS
You can look forward to excellent library and internet computer facilities at NUS’ main library (http://www.lib.nus.edu.sg/), the library at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) (https://www.iseas.edu.sg/library) and the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library at the National Library (http://www.nlb.gov.sg) to facilitate your research for the dissertation. NUS’ main library has 2 million volumes covering all topics while ISEAS’ library has 200,000 on Southeast Asian topics, half of which are in Southeast Asian languages.

6. An opportunity to present your research paper at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies to an audience of young international scholars and senior Southeast Asia specialists

Intensive English Academic Writing Program (Optional)
A limited number of students may be selected to take part in a two-week long intensive course on English academic writing. This program is specifically intended for students who struggle with writing and/or communicating in academic English. If you have already received training in this field or if you are a (near) native English speaker, you might not benefit from this course. Please note that those students who enroll in the English academic writing program will thus have two weeks less time to conduct research locally. Please consider carefully what is more important to you at this stage of your career.
SINGAPORE GRADUATE FORUM ON SOUTHEAST ASIAN STUDIES| 20–24 July 2020

This five-day forum, the fifteenth of an annual series of forums for graduate students who work on Southeast Asia, will be organised thematically. Themes broadly reflect (though not limited to) the core research strengths of the Asia Research Institute, including the Asian dynamics of religion, politics, economy, gender, culture, language, migration, urbanism, science and technology, identities, population and social change.
The first two days of the forum will be dedicated to Skills Based Sessions during which senior scholars will address various topics such as:
· How to get published in peer-reviewed journals
· How to apply for international grants
· How to flourish as an early career academic
During the final three days, graduate students will be giving the opportunity to present their work in sessions organized thematically. Graduate students working on topics related to Southeast Asia are invited to submit abstracts based either on work in progress that is at an advanced stage (i.e. already completed data collection and analysis), or on completed work. Hostel accommodation will be provided for the duration of the forum. NUS students are also encouraged to take advantage of this unprecedented opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with students from other regions whose interests focus on Southeast Asia.
REQUIREMENTS & EXPECTATIONS
Successful candidates for the fellowship are expected to submit a draft of their papers by 3 June 2020. This paper will be shared with his/her local mentor in preparation for his/her interactions with her/him.
Those selected for both fellowship and forum are required to send in a full-length paper (4,000-5,000 words) by 1 July 2020, and to make a presentation on their work at the Singapore Graduate Forum on Southeast Asian Studies on 20–24 July 2020.
Please note that the paper must be based on your own work, and only previously unpublished papers or those not already presented elsewhere can be accepted.

Since the fellowship offers an opportunity to enroll in an English academic writing course, your referee should also address how and why you would benefit from such a program (if applicable).
