University of Bremen offers postdoctoral positions for German as well as international researchers in Germany. Post-doc positions are offered in two different variants: early career postdoctoral positions for a period of two years and independent postdoctoral positions for a period of four years. Career coaching and intensive counseling prepare the post-docs for their next career step. Early career postdoctoral positions offer the opportunity to face up to the scientific competition and to secure further external funding within two years. The advanced post-docs should set up new research groups by acquiring third-party-funding and gain the qualifications necessary for a scientific career as a professor. The number of positions available is shared equally between the natural and engineering sciences and the social sciences and humanities. The application deadline is 1st September 2013.
Study Subject (s): Post-doc positions are available in the areas of the natural and engineering sciences and the social sciences and humanities. The number of positions available is shared equally between these areas.
Course Level: Positions are available for pursuing postdoctoral degree level: Early Career Postdoctoral Positions and Independent Postdoctoral Positions at University of Bremen.
Scholarship Provider: University of Bremen, Germany
Scholarship can be taken at: Germany
Eligibility: -Early Career Postdoctoral Positions: Applicants are only eligible for funding if they are to receive their doctorate within the next six months or if they submitted their doctoral thesis no longer than one year ago (date of the PhD defense). Exceptions to this rule are possible if applicants can show that there have been periods of child care following the award of their doctorate (two years per child, if the child has not been more than twelve years old) or that they were tending a relative. It is also possible to take periods of legal internship/trainee teaching into account.
-Independent Postdoctoral Positions: Applicants are only eligible for funding if they received their doctorate at least one and at most four years ago (date of issue of the doctoral degree certificate). Exceptions to this rule are possible if they can show that there have been periods of child care following the award of their doctorate (two years per child, if the child has not been more than twelve years old) or that they were tending a relative. It is also possible to take periods of legal internship/trainee teaching into account. Researchers who have completed their doctorate at the University of Bremen are entitled to apply if they have not been employed at the University of Bremen in the two years prior to the application date.
-When contacting a receiving work group at the University of Bremen, please consider that only a full-time professor of the University of Bremen can be a host professor in this funding procedure.
Scholarship Open for International Students: German as well as international researchers can apply for these positions.
Scholarship Description: The Post-Doc Initiative offers another career track in addition to the Junior Professorships and the leaders of Junior Research Groups. Positions awarded competitively and with their own budget create more room for independent research in the post-doc phase. Career coaching and intensive counseling prepare the post-docs for their next career step. Internationally advertised post-doc positions are offered in two different variants: early career postdoctoral positions for a period of two years and independent postdoctoral positions for a period of four years. Early career postdoctoral positions offer the opportunity to face up to the scientific competition and to secure further external funding within two years. For your application, please name five persons whom we might possibly contact for an external academic expert opinion in case the selection committee makes a corresponding preselection. When contacting a receiving work group at the University of Bremen, please consider that only a full-time professor of the University of Bremen can be a host professor in this funding procedure. On the faculties and institutes’ websites the professors’ statuses might not always be obvious. For example, professors of cooperating research institutions such as AWI, MPI, ZMT, IFAM and BIPS are not necessarily full-time professors of the University of Bremen. Internal applicants should make use of the Central Research Development Fund (CRDF) but the deadline for them has passed.
Number of award(s): This call for proposals comprises three two-year early career postdoctoral positions and three four-year independent postdoctoral positions.
Duration of award(s): Early career postdoctoral positions for a period of two years and independent postdoctoral positions for a period of four years.
What does it cover? A post-doc position paid pursuant to the salary scale E 13 TV-L for a maximum of 24 months is granted after the completion of the PhD. Additionally, there is an allowance of up to €10,000 per year to cover e.g. costs of student assistants, publications and international mobility.
