ด้วยจุดเริ่มต้นของการเป็นหุ้นส่วนในการเจรจาระหว่างประเทศในปี1989 อาเซียนและเกาหลีใต้ได้กลายเป็นพันธมิตรที่แข็งแกร่งในทุกด้าน ไม่ว่าจะเป็น ความมั่นคงทางการเมือง วัฒนธรรมทางเศรษฐกิจและสังคม อาเซียนเป็นคู่ค้ารายใหญ่ที่สุดอันดับที่ 2 ของเกาหลีและเป็นประเทศที่มีการลงทุนมากที่สุดเป็นอันดับ 3 ในขณะที่เกาหลีเป็นคู่ค้าอันดับ 5 ของอาเซียนในแต่ละภูมิภาค อาเซียนเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยวอันดับหนึ่งสำหรับชาวเกาหลี และการเดินทางไปมาระหว่างคนทั้งสองภูมิภาคมีถึง 9 ล้านคน นับตั้งแต่การบริหารประเทศของ Moon Jae-in ในปี 2017 เกาหลีใต้ได้ประกาศนโยบายNew Southern Policyโดยมุ่งเป้าไปที่ภูมิภาคอาเซียนเพื่อกระชับความสัมพันธ์ให้ยิ่งขึ้น
2018 ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest เปิดโอกาสให้นักศึกษาอาเซียนและเกาหลีเข้าร่วมแบ่งปันมุมมองและความรู้เกี่ยวกับความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างอาเซียนและเกาหลีใต้ มุมมองของหนุ่มสาวในอาเซียนและเกาหลีใต้จะมีส่วนช่วยในการสร้างความเป็นหุ้นส่วนที่แท้จริงและยั่งยืน

3. Socio-Cultural (Unity in Diversity: Building an ASEAN Identity)

※Abstract for both English and Korean essays must be written in English.
DEADLINE & REQUIREMENTS :
Submission : Midnight 30 September 2018 (Korea Standard Time)
Winner Announcement : 5 November 2018
Required Documents : Essay, Abstract, Application form
FORMAT :
English - Max. 4,000 words or 10 pages, Times New Roman, 12-point, 1.5 interlinear
Korean - Max. 3,000 words or 10 pages, 한컴바탕, 11-point, 1.5 interlinear
- Essays must be submitted and formatted in Microsoft Word.
- In-text citations must be made in APA (sixth edition).
WINNERS :
- 10 ASEAN Winners (1 from each ASEAN Member State)
- 5 Korean Winners
PRIZES :
- Winners will be invited to the ASEAN-Korea Youth Academic Workshop to present their essays.
- Selected papers among the winning essays will be compiled and published by the ASEAN-Korea Centre and the Korean Herald as the publication series Young Perspectives.
- Winners will be offered an opportunity for a study trip (4 nights/5 days) either to an ASEAN country or to Korea based on their nationalities:
a) Korean winners – Visits to the ASEAN-Korea Centre, universities, research institutes, and cultural sites in ASEAN.
b) ASEAN winners – Visits to the ASEAN-Korea Centre, universities, research institutes and cultural sites in Korea.
※Travel expenses will be covered by the ASEAN-Korea Centre.
