Each year, DAAD, German Academic Exchange Service offers scholarships for developing countries’ students. The scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate degree at German institutions of Higher education.  These scholarships provide monthly installment of EUR 750.00. and also include the costs for health, accident and liability insurance in Germany and an adequate travelling allowance. Applications should be submitted online to German Embassy by 31st July.

DAAD Scholarships for Developing Countries are offered for pursuing development-related postgraduate courses in the areas of Economic Sciences / Business Administration/ Political Economics, Development Co-operation, Engineering and related sciences, Mathematics, Regional Planning, Agricultural and Forest Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Public Health / Veterinary Medicine / Medicine, Social Science, Education & Law and Media Studies.
Course Level:
The scholarship is offered to pursue postgraduate degree at German institutions of Higher education.

Eligibility:
-Age limit: 36 years of age at the time of application (for some courses 32 years)
For some courses, Bachelor degree should have been completed not longer than 6 years at the time of application. Concerning this matter, please directly contact the coordinator of the respective study program.
-Degree: Bachelor or Master
-GPA: min 2,75 for Master candidates (some study programs applied GPA more than 2,75. Please see the detail on the website of each study program) and 3,00 for Doctoral candidates.
-Work experience: at least two years after completing Bachelor degree.
-Language skill:
-For postgraduate courses held in English request an international TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based) or IELTS (band 6). Some courses may expect a different level. For detailed information see the website of the relevant course.
-For postgraduate courses held in German: please see the details on the course list. Certain level of German language exam may be required before admission to the course.

Scholarship Description:
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst – supports a range of postgraduate courses at German universities which aim at providing academically educated young professionals from Developing Countries with further specialized studies. The DAAD supports these selected programs with a certain quota of scholarships and with financial assistance for a special tutoring system. At the end of the course (programs run 12 to 36 months, depending on the particular institution) participants can obtain an internationally recognized Master’s or in some courses PhD degree.
What does it cover? 
The DAAD pays a monthly scholarship installment, currently set at EUR 750.00. In addition, the scholarship includes costs for health, accident and liability insurance in Germany and an adequate travelling allowance, in so far as the home country or another donor is not already covering these expenses. Furthermore, the DAAD pays an annual research grant. However, the universities might charge additional fess not covered by the scholarship (e.g., enrolment fee, semester ticket, etc.).
Selection Criteria:
 Selection criteria and procedures for DAAD Scholarships for Developing Countries recipients ensure that:
-priority target candidates have proven, development-related motivation and can be expected to make full use of their scholarship and education by taking on social responsibility later in their careers, acting as agents of change who stimulate and support development in their personal and professional surroundings ( motivation, commitment to development),
-the candidates have the professional and academic qualifications Necessary to Ensure successful completion of the degree programs in Germany (final scores on previous academic examinations, language skills),
-women and candidates from disadvantaged groups who meet the required academic and professional standards and show proven commitment to development-related issues are especially targeted for program admission.
How to Apply:
The completed application form must be accompanied by the following documents in German, English or French; translations must be submitted with documents in other languages.
-full curriculum vitae
-detailed and precise description of study or research proposal as well as information on any previous study or research projects of particular relevance to a decision of award
-evidence of any existing contact with academics at the chosen German host institutions (copies of correspondence), applicants for Research grants up to 6 months should provide a precise schedule which has been agreed upon by the host institution.
-depending on the purpose one or two recent referee’s report(s) by one or two university teacher(s), which should contain information on the applicant’s academic or artistic abilities (the form is available from the above-mentioned offices or on the Internet: www.daad.de/de/form). Applicants with the purpose of gaining a doctorate have to submit two reports (as the case may be from different subjects), all other applicants have to submit one report. These reports are confidential; they should not be sent to the DAAD in Bonn direct, but forwarded in a sealed envelope to the responsible authority accepting applications in the candidate’s home country.
-academic certificates: officially authenticated copies of the following:
1.school-leaving certificate giving the right of entry to higher education in the applicant´s home country (with individual grades, not required for Research grants up to 6 months)
2. all university end-of-year exam certificates (with individual grades)
3.university diploma or degree certificate indicating the final grade(s).
-All certificates must be accompanied by an explanation of the grading system. Copies of certificates must be officially authenticated and submitted preferably on DIN A4 or A5 paper.
-Document copies may be authenticated as true copies of the originals with a stamp and signature by one of the following authorities:
-The German Embassy or Consulate, a German school, or the university which conferred the degree. The accuracy of the translation must be confirmed. Original certificates will not be needed until matriculation at the German institution.
-language certificate, giving evidence of the applicant´s level of proficiency in German at the time of application. The certificate should preferably be issued by a Goethe-Institut lecturer or a DAAD-Lektor/in, otherwise by a recognised teacher of German. Applicants for an English-instructed degree programme are requested to submit in addition the English language proficiency certificates specified in the programme announcement.

2. health certificate (DAAD will give you a special notice as to when this certificate should be delivered)
3. this certificate should be delivered) documents relating to periods of practical training, if appropriate
4. list of publications if any
Scholarship Applications Dates and Deadlines
Scholarship applicants from developing countries (on the DAC List of the OECD) can apply at the German embassy or DAAD regional office, directly at the DAAD in Bonn or directly to the university.
The general closing dates for applications are as follows:
-31 July (annually) DAAD Regional Office, DAAD-Information Centre or German Embassy or
-31 August (annually) DAAD Bonn or
-15 October (annually) University (Please check date. Deadlines differ from university to university.
Applicants should be sure to check information regarding application closing dates directly with the individual universities because they may vary from the general deadlines listed above.
The selection process generally takes place at the universities in the period from November to February.
Scholarships are usually awarded for the following winter semester.
